baabaaZuzu was formed in 1994 in the Leland, Michigan home of Sue Burns. Her husband, Kevin, shrunk two of her sweaters and, rather than throw them out, she made jackets for her two daughters out of them. Soon after, friends started asking her for the jackets, bells rang and I started baabaaZuzu. The name comes from the source of our wool and my nickname "Zuzu".
They started in their living room and before too long, baabaaZuzu had taken over the basement. So, to reclaim storage space they moved to a store in the village of Lake Leelanau.
All baabaaZuzu clothing is made from 100% recycled material. Most of it from local second hand shops that have too much stock. Although all garments bear some similarities like the small pocket and a hand-sewn blanket stitch, we're proud that each baabaaZuzu garment is unique.
At the Clay Coyote Gallery we carry jackets, hand bags, and wonderfully warm mittens.
